Purple or black carrots are vegetables with a long history. The countries of origin are Afghanistan and northern Iran, where it was cultivated as early as the 10th century. It reached Europe only a little later, mentions of it appeared in ancient Rome. The Romans believed that this carrot and its seeds were an aphrodisiac. Now it grows mainly in southern Europe and Asia.
